Congress: “Shut It Down!”

It’s been almost 20 years since the last congressional shutdown. And though it is only days into this current federal freeze, many still remain in the dark as to when normal operations will resume. Opposition to healthcare reform – a topic of hot debate since President Obama took office – lies at the root of this standstill.

Both political parties are currently unable to meet a viable compromise regarding the Affordable Care Act, with ramifications that have led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of government workers. With no end in sight at the moment, Resonate asks: Is it political ideology or political process that makes it so difficult for Congress to pass legislation?
